SAFETY FIRST! Make sure you get the right buoyancy aid

It’s no joke! There’s nothing more important than getting the right buoyancy aid.   Whether it be you’re going on a SUP, kayak or other water adventure, safety is always first!  And if you are taking your dog, don’t forget that they need to be safe too!

Remember to make sure you’ve got your buoyancy aid at the ready.  Easy to store in the boot of your car so it’s always at hand or in your kit bag.

We trialled 4 of the 50 Newton Baltic Buoyancy aids which we stock here at Tri Wetsuit Hire to hire or buy!  At Tri Wetsuit Hire we love giving our customers the chance to try before they buy with our hire options.

Baltic Slim PRO- Reflective

Pro’s :

  • As the name suggests, this is a slim buoyancy aid which is super comfortable allowing plenty of movement when paddling.
  • Easy to get on and off with the front zip and doesn’t come up too high on the body even in a seated position.
  • It also packs down to a good size which is great if you want to keep it with your other kit.
  • Being a bit of a fuss pot about things being too high on my body when sitting down I found this one to be the most comfortable

Con’s :

  • The Slim Pro comes in at £80 and so it is on pricey side

Ali’s verdict: I’d give it 5 stars.

Baltic SUP Pro – Pink

Pro’s :

  • This is a lovely buoyancy aid with over the head entry and a zip to the side.
  • It comes in some great colours and has reflective panels on the shoulders so you can be seen easily.
  • It has a zipped pocket on the chest with key retainer to keep your personal items safe whilst on the water.

Con’s :

  • This aid is best suited for SUP adventures when stood up and less suited to Kayaking, rafting when sat down

Ali’s verdict: I’d give it 4 stars.

Baltic Paddler - Yellow

Pro’s :

  • This is an entry level buoyancy aid with over the head entry and clip closure to the side.
  • It comes in the yellow that I tried and a red/navy.
  • It has a velcro pocket on the chest to keep your personal items safe whilst on the water.
  • Crotch strap to keep the jacket in place.
  • Overall a good first buoyancy aid at a reasonable price point that does the job.

Con’s :

  • I tried the yellow version of this paddler buoyancy aid and it did show the marks quite badly after a couple of uses and was difficult to clean.
  • I found that even with the crotch strap the buoyancy aid rode up when I was in a kayak which I found uncomfortable as it knocked into my chin.

  • This is a great buoyancy aid to keep your furry friend safe on your paddle adventures.

  • It’s a nice bright colour so you can easily spot your animal if they do happen to fall overboard or decide to go for a swim!
  • Good sturdy handle on the back of the jacket so you can easily pull your dog to safety
  • Takes up very little space and comes in a variety of sizes to suit different breeds of dog.

Con’s :

  • I really can’t find any faults with this dog buoyancy aid.
